Changing Gears-Part I

Change.

Have y'all ever noticed how much this one word creeps into our daily lives and speech?

change in the wind
change in the blink of an eye
oil change
short changed
change of heart
change for the better
change your mind
change of address

I know I'm seeing it more as I get...ahem...older and not just in the change of seasons.

In fact, it's that last one that's getting to me right now.

There's a lot of changes going on here at the Casita de Trash, but I'm only addressing the spring antique show today 'cause...well, there's this whole time and place change thingy we've been facing.

Time...or maybe timing is a better word...is not my friend. Not that we were ever on the best of terms, but it's really making itself scarce lately.

SQUIRREL ALERT!

FYI...for those of y'all who think working at home allows you unlimited time...think again.  Having yourself as a boss can be challenging.  Me, myself, and I can be a real taskmaster, but having me, myself, and I as an employee is kinda like having loose change in the bottom of a big ol' purse.  Seems me, myself, and I isn't very organized, rattles around a lot and jingle-jangles even more.  Me, myself, and I, are just like those bad pennies tucked away in the hidey-holes of a handbag; weighing me down, elusive when needed, and only show up with a used Kleenex stuck to her their backside.  Me, myself, and I can and does drive me, myself, and I crazy.

So when looking at the calendar, seeing Antiques Week looming in just 5 weeks and knowing Cat Daddy can't get the two weeks off needed to do a proper show set up, I'm faced with a game changer.

Do I do the show by myself...AGAIN...or do we change our course of action?  I voted for a little change-up this time...and my vote outweighs his vote by 2 to 1...thanks to those pennies.

Instead of committing to the full two weeks needed, we are opting to go down the week before the shows actually open.  We're going to load a few things on the smaller trailer, find a change of scenery to drop it on (I'll give you the 411 on that when I know), sell for a few days and then take the rest of the week to just enjoy ourselves.

Presto-chango...I felt better immediately.  It was as if a huge load had been lifted off my shoulders.  I'm not saying this will be our permanent change of plans, but for now...it works.

That's the beauty of change.  It's the knowing nothing has to be carved in stone or nailed to the floor...unless we choose to add water to the cement.  Every now and then we all need a change of habit...otherwise, without the nerve to try a change of pace, we  I might as well just sit life out.

(As long as we're talking about changes, let me add a caboose to this train of thought.  Several folks have let me know they like the "comments" section open. I'll try it for a while, but I have to say I still feel guilty about it.  Never fear though.  Y'all know me and anything can change in a heartbeat!)

I think you made a good decision. Life has been full of changes for me the last couple of years. I have just now accepted those changes and am making some changes to make my life better. Relax and enjoy life. I'm trying to learn that lesson. Hope we both find our changes to be rewarding!

Sometimes you've just gotta let "change" drive you to your destination! I had a hell of year last year, with changes I never thought I'd see in my entire life. But here I am today, laughing, working, enjoying my family. Life is always a journey, and I think we just have to be open on whatever path we are placed!

Take care my friend. . .

I applaud you my dear...Know it probably was difficult decisionfor "me, myself and I" to come to, but in the end...enjoy your life! We all get so caught up in this business, that you forget that there is a big beautiful life outside junk and antiques...I say grab that brass ring and enjoy being on the other side of the fence for part of your time...hoping to come see you!!

Deb, change is good. What's known is old, stale, boring. It is just too hard to do the show by yourself which is why I quit doing Marburger. We have to ease up someday. Hope the break will be good for you.

Yay... I can leave my nickles worth and tell ya how much I love your face. Ch-ch-Changes should be my theme song the last several years. It really is a good thing, it causes us to put our trust in where it should be in the first place and as a result our faith grows. I think of a river that runs wild always changing and leaving its mark on the landscape vs a swamp that never changes and eventually smells up the environmental. You my dear are a mighty forging river!

A younger Deb may not have made as wise of a "change of mind." I think as we age, we realize that our priorities change, and our decisions are wiser, too. What is it that truly matters? That is a question that will help us to change our thoughts, change our decisions, change our actions, change our will.

You're right: change is good.

You always make the right decision! I'm pondering a change myself, so this helps me a lot.

I do, however, hope there's a way I can see you down in TX! But, I can't come until the 4th (because of the accursed day job)....

Dear Debra, I am so glad, thrilled would be the better word, that you are taking comments. I love your penny analogy. You are taking care of you and Cat Daddy and that is what is best. Thank you for the loving comment about my sweet boy. Today's post is all arranged around that comment in fact and you are quoted. love ya, olive

Hey, sweet lady--Oh, what a wise woman you are!! I too have been tormented with so many changes and transitions lately. It's boggling really, but I'm learning on this life journey it really is about the journey and ENJOYING each precious moment. So happy you have a plan and hope to catch up with ya soon. xxoos Peace, love, and accepting change as gracefully as possible... ; )

As, YES, I can so relate! I have found myself becoming a wee bit lazy, but I think I have earned it, after 58 years I am beginning to slow down, I stop and take a cat (tee hee) nap every once in awhile!!

I have been wondering if I want to do the one flea I do (well, it is twice a year but anyway). I can't imagine how y'all do it for a living! I'm exhausted after one weekend of it!

And I get it about working at home . . . I am so easily distracted these days . . like now, I should be working, and then I &$#* and moan that my paycheck isn't as big as it should be, hmmmm

I'm rolling with the punches!!!

xoxo
