Jump and Shout

So it's like this y'all...I'm relaxing in the tub last night having a little late night conversation with moi and it went something like this.

Me: I wish I could come up with a killer post to write.

Myself: Aaaa...just throw something up...who'll notice or even care?

Me: I beg your pardon? I've got readers and they care! They know when I do a cra-A-ppy post.

Myself: Well, who appointed you The Grand Poobah of knowing what they think or like?

Me: Easy...when it's a throw-a-way post...they just don't leave me a comment. I think their mamas must've taught 'em...if you can't say something nice...don't say anything! I was saying, my peeps are so great. I just want to give back to them something that.....

Just like that boys and girls...I got the great American idea! (It's a good thing it wasn't a real light bulb moment or I might be typing this with singed hair!)
Seeing as how this is awards season and all...what with the Golden Globes, Oscars, and The suddenly came to me that the ones who should be getting awards and bouquets are y'all the readers and commenters. Let's face it...except for a handful, no one would blog if there wasn't somebody out there reading and encouraging us...besides our families and half the time mine don't even do it! Y'all are the ones who take your valuable time to leave a little love letter and make me/us feel special and I think it's high time you got your due.

So here's my idea folks, (and I must say...I think it's Fab U Lous...if I say so Myself) I'm going to hold a contest for commenters. I don't have all the details ironed out yet and I'm open to suggestions...just don't suggest I forget about it 'cause that ain't gonna happen. I'm a woman on a mission!
~photo found at Place for Bloggers~

The simple outline at this time ('cause trust me...this could change with the wind) is y'all who have blogs leave a comment nominating your favorite commenter and in the comment just tell me why. Maybe they have been with you from the very first (I have some dear friends that I made from that first one), maybe they make coffee stains on your screen, perhaps it's just their sweet words that touch you. Whatever the reason...tell me. After I've had a coke or two or three (that's when I'm most jazzed), I'll then try to come up with 3 or 4 categories and based on what you've told me, I'll place their names in that category. I'll also place a Honor Roll on my sidebar listing each and every one of the names submitted. Once the nominations close, I'll draw a name out of every category, announce the recipients ('cause y'all are all winners) and send out little gifts. Don't ask me what the gifts are...I've yet to work that out, but I promise up and down...they will be worthy!

I'm also thinking that once I write the post opening up the nominations, if any of y'all that have blogs do a companion post on your nominee/nominees, I'll have a little surprise for you as well. I think we bloggers are way overdue on giving back to those who give so generously to us. I had a sweet lady say in a comment, that she doesn't always leave one because of the amount of comments already left. Are you woofing me? Doll Baby...there ain't no such thing as too many...too little, yes...too many, no! It's what I need, heck, it's what we all need. Knowing you are reading makes it all worthwhile and makes me work (did I just say!) harder to keep it fresh. Otherwise...I'm just talking to myself...and you see how well that went in the first paragraph. Myself is not a brilliant conversationalist!
So tell you like? If so...give me a shout!

Well, you're one of my fave commentors, you always have something fresh and original to say!

I really love Vicki's comments from Rusty Rooster Vintage, she just has a knack for making me smile and feel special!

Ditto for Suzanne from Privet and Holly.

Great post!

Now Deb, love the idea, but it's going to be hard to nominate just one commenter because I love those that leave comments that make me laugh (you), some make me smile, and others are just making my day by their comments, so I'll have to think about this one. I know there is a way to show which ones have commented the most, so I might look at this feature. Thanks for doing this, great idea! Sometimes I don't think we say thank you enough to those that do leave comments.

I am one of those who read for free but don't pay with a comment. I have seen my evil ways and promise to change. Thanks for the heads up.
Love your award show idea. I think most neglected blog might be a category I could give someone a run for thier money.

Oh Debbie, this is a great idea! It will be hard to pick one! I have several, including you, that I adore!! The ones that actually look at what I did and comment on it! And yes, comments are our validation!

I love this idea!

This is a great idea! I am feeling a little convicted right now, though. I have so become somewhat of a lurker these days. I used to leave comments every time that I would visit someone's blog, but not so much lately. I feel bad because I know just how much it means to receive a comment. So, I will be thinking about my for sure are always one of my faves. Anne, Mindy and Sweet T always leave really good comments, too. Oh, and Tracey from French Larkspur.

Troy from The "JUNK EXCHANGE" should write a book about his life. He is a very good writer. Go take a look . It's from the heart. He is my nomination.

LOVE,LOVE,LOVE this idea! I'm thinking that maybe only people who have names beginning with MAL should be eligible! :) You know what is disheartening? When one takes time and effort to write a post and gets just a couple of comments. Yes, I am talking about me. Sigh. Anyway, I love your idea! Now, get out of the tub and get busy writing!

Sounds great...and you are the gal to do it!!!

Deb, it is a great idea. You are right, comments are so meaningful. I really appreciate them because, for me, it is almost as hard to leave a comment as it is to write a post. That is why mine are usually short! I'll be watching for your post to open the nominations, but let me just go ahead now and say a big thank you to you, Mindy (The Primitique), Anne (Fiona and Twig) and Robelyn (red.neck chic) for being deluxe commenters!

Unknown said...

What a GREAT idea! It is so nice to get a note of appreciation when you go to the trouble to post something. Two of my very first commenters were Theresa @ Garden Antqs. Vintage and Mindy @ Primitique. As a new blogger, those initial words of encouragement mean so much and let you know someone is watching. I will put more thought into it and get back with you.

Great idea Deb! You know you are one of my favorite commenters (not just suckin' up, it's true!). Assuming I need to pick another person, I'd have to say that Carolyn from Draffin Bears has been with me for ages and she's amazingly sweet and supportive. She actually reads my drival and makes such nice remarks. She definitely deserves a shout out. Thanks Carolyn if you're reading this!

Oh I do love them ALL, and would leave someone out if I start naming names, so will just nominate my favorite feline, Romeo of Confessions of A Junkyard Cat. Romeo, Romeo, him and his comments. (And I'm not even a cat person - not sayin' anything here that I haven't said straight to his whiskers...)

Pam @ Frippery said...

Great idea except I don't know how I could choose one. I don't get loads of comments anyway so I would feel like I was slighting someone. Plus you are my most constant commenter and one of my first too. So then I guess it would have to be you if I was naming names. Since you can't send yourself a gift, well, I guess you could, I don't know how I can participate. This is a tricky one.

Carole said...

Wow this is a hard one but the first one that came to mind was my friend Julie of Being Ruby she was one of my first "good" commenters and she's still my "go to" gal when I want to "talk". We never miss a post of each others or miss commenting. She lives in Australia and though our lives are so different I feel closer to her then many in my life. Weird huh? It's a powerful thing this Blogging we do. I'm getting teary eyed just thinking of it.
Thank you Debbie for thinking of're the best! and a great commenter!

Sissie's Shabby Cottage said...

No way could I just choose a few. I get so many comments from people, including you, that I love and adore. No matter how long or short their comment, each one is as important as the other. I'm with Pam, I think this is a tricky one.
Better get back in the tub and figure out how we can do this without slighting anyone.

Vicki said...

Hi, Debbie! I think this idea definitely has merit. I do think some may feel slighted if you aren't careful with the topics. I've got thick skin but not everyone does. That said...what about things like funniest comment, best idea, best personal story/experience shared...etc. ???

You always come up with the best ideas! Must be that tub of yours...

I think it's a great way to say thank you to the people who support each other through comments! I love the premise and think you should go for it!

girl...the things you come up with...I love this idea!!! I have missed you my little trash talker...I have been away from my computer a lot lately...and I am almost glad I am sick as a dog...cuz I am visiting all my very favorite included!!! I used to love coming and giggling at your silliness...and I think I am doing a great job with my new year pay attention to those I care I planned to visit my favorite bloggers as often as I can this year...cuz that's just how special you are!
I can't wait to see how this contest rolls out...good luck everyone!!!

Umm...excuse me little Missy but I come over here every time you have a new post and read it. I just don't always leave comments.

But it got me to thinkin' that maybe that's why I don't an awful lot of comments. I'm crappy? WAAAAHHH!

Actually, I have been lately which is why I am takin' a much-need break! But not from blog-surfin'. I'll still be over here to visit you and all my other friends.

Bien sur, I like you idea, Deb. I think specific categories would be great for narrowing things down because other than you, it's just so hard to choose.

Rebecca said...

wow, this will be tough to choose... I gotta think on this one, there are more than one that comes to mind!
Well, I see the girl is back :)
and then some...
Love ya

Hi Deb, I'm so late visiting with everyone, it's been a hectic week with another on the way! I too would have to think on this it would be really hard to choose just one!!!
Thanks so much for posting our giveaway on your sidebar!

I love this idea so much. The idea that someone would take the time to actually share their thoughts then jump thru the necessary hoops to get it published is awesome! I appreciate the lurkers too. It would be so hard to narrow it down to 1 or 2. I have different categories, ones that make me spew coke out of my sinus (Jodie, You) then the ones that flatter my ego (June, Sissie), & the ones that have stuck with me from the beginning thru thick & thin (Dorthe). Humm, thought provoking. Are you making a button for us? I'd proudly display something that says 'I love y'all). Lisa
PS You don't even have to leave a comment, just that self portrait of you in the tub is enough to get me thru the day.

AuroraSuzette said...

Great idea, but I'm a little surprised to read you dissin 'yourself', cause a blogger/writer as fab as you has GOT to be a great conversationalist, even if she's the only one in the tub! And your comments always make a difference to me on my little blog. Thank you for your bloggy love, baby!!

I love the idea! I know someone who always leaves me the best comments and I should send her a Taco Casa gift Certificate :-) I confess to lurking since my job change. New Job wont let me be on FB and Blog while on "the company dime" :-( and my micro laptop at home sucks! along with the slower than the IRS customer service air card I got from AT&T sucks!!!!! but, tonight I have overcome this tragic situation and left a comment on My fav blog :-)

This is way cool!

LOVE it Girl! And I'm glad my post will be right under Robelyn, cuz between her, you and Mindy, I pretty much need a "depenz" from laughing each time I read a comment from you girls!

Love the idea...of course you are a favorite along with some others...the ones that make you laugh...the ones that comment on a small detail...the ones who jump up and comment as soon as you publish...the ones that remember things about you from a previous post...the ones who feel friendly enough to give you advice...the ones that have been with you from the beginning...really unless I think a comment has been copied and pasted on every blog around, there is no bad comment, lol.
