In The Eye Of The Beholder

You heard the saying"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? Take a look at these two chairs! Are they beautiful or what? I know, I know. You're thinking I had to have pulled these out of a dumpster. Well, I hate to disappoint you, but no, I actually paid money for these. Good, hard earned money. Cat Daddy and I got them and the sofa about 12 years ago. They've been sitting in his daddy's barn and we had forgot all about them. His dad had cleaned out his barn and threatened, I mean, requested C.D. get that crap, I mean, take this quality merchandise home before it got ruined. I had been looking for a Saarinen type table for some time. Cat Daddy found me one at a local store and brought it home to me strapped to the hood of his truck. With the pedestal leg sticking up, it was definitely a one pointer to me and the timing was perfect. I knew that these chairs would be spot on with the table. Very George Jetson.
The couch that goes with these is fantastic. I'm going to have it redone as well. It's armless and comes to points at each end. So cool and mid-century. I'm in the process of looking for just the right fabric. C.D. and I are fortunate that we have a wonderful couple who as friends do things like this for us. They don't do any outside work for the trade sadly. It's a shame as they are quite gifted in restoration. She can do anything including molding missing fretwork, trim, fancy legs, etc. I asked her to just revive the legs. Thankfully, there is no structural damage although she is going to take it down to the wood.Just look at the seats on those two. There is absolutely no sagging on either one. I'm talking about the chairs, ladies. I wanted to be sure to get before shots because the end result will be amazing! While we were there, we looked around in their barn to see if there was anything we needed to purchase for the Spring Show at Zapp Hall. I found several things I'm considering but I didn't think twice about these lamps.
Is this not the sweetest pair of boudoir lamps? She had recently rewired them and I love them! I do wish the little beads had all been there (see on the right hand one), but I think I'll just put 4 new ones on them. They are only about 9" tall, but just precious.
She also had this pair of petite boudoir lamps. These are only 8" high. I just love both pairs. I would love to take credit for seeing them first, but I can't. Cat Daddy spotted these on a cabinet in their fabric room and asked if they were for sale. I swear, I'm going to have to sew lace on his underwear, he's getting so good at ferreting out pretty feminine things!
And speaking of lamps, this was my treasure of the weekend. C.D. and I went to an auction this weekend in Sulphur Springs. I'll tell y'all all about it in another post, but let me tell you this now, we had a blast. It was like being at a family reunion. But once again, I digress. This mercury glass lamp was in the barn-part of the auction.
The barn was split into 2 auctions with 2 auctioneers going at the same time. C.D. was on one side and I was on the other. I had already made up my mind, I was going home with this beauty come hell or high water. That's right, I said hell. Now, I'm 5'1" and it seemed like anyone who was 6' or taller or wider wanted to stand in front of me. I didn't know how I was going to be seen when the bidding began. But we all know when we've got our eye on the prize, ain't no mountain high enough. I just elbowed my way to the front as if I was Oprah or somebody equally important, planted my chubby body in front of the auctioneer and dared anybody to move me. Guess what? It worked.
That auctioneer stayed with me throughout the bidding and lucky, lucky me, I got my souvenir!!! Now Laurie before you ask, no, it's not for sale-at least not any time soon. I'll tell y'all more about the sale later, so stay tuned.

Those chairs are fabulous - they will go great with that Saarinen style table. But that mercury lamp is definitely a prize! You're lucky you have a great partner like C.D. working with you.

I love those chairs! I can't wait to see the chairs, table and sofa together. I think maybe CD is becoming metro-sexual! Nothing wrong with a manly man having a great sense of style. (Just don't let him start getting mani/pedis or stealing your hair products) We have to draw the line somewhere.I have never been to an auction. You definitely scored on that lamp. Hugs, Pam
